The idea for Making Wishes Grow began in August 2015.  The Studio Management Team at Dance Connection sat down to discuss their competition team's schedule for the upcoming season.  They wanted to add something unique to their team's competition and performance lineup.  For awhile, they've had a dream of producing a full-scale production to benefit a cause important to them and to expand the event to include other organizations and performing artists.  They felt that as artists themselves, it is important to use their talents to give back to the community and that instilling that value in their students should be a cornerstone of their studio's mission.  Thus, they decided that perhaps that year was the year to explore making that dream a reality.

In selecting a cause to benefit, their minds immediately went to The Make-A-Wish Foundation.  They had worked with the Suffolk County chapter of Make-A-Wish numerous times over the past five years.  They had raised money for Make-A-Wish by competing at Power of Dance competition, had performed each year for their Wish families at their annual holiday party, had provided entertainment for their annual National Believe Day celebration at Bay Shore Macy's, and this past spring performed as an enhancement for a wish being granted at their annual gala.  Their dancers and staff have been able to see Make-A-Wish's work and mission firsthand.

The first Making Wishes Grow production was produced in March of 2016.  It featured over 60 performers from across Long Island and raised thousands of dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County.  The funds raised were used to send a girl from Lindenhurst on her wish to see the premiere of the Harry Potter play in London.

In January 2018, the second Making Wishes Grow production was held at St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip.  It raised close to $7,000 to send Farah from Amityville to Disney World.

In January 2019, the third Making Wishes Grow production was held at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville.  It raised close to $5,000 to send Matthew from Holtsville to visit Disney World.
